School Counselors’ Perceptions Related To Parents: A Metaphor Study

This study aims to examine the perceptions of the school counselors about parents through the metaphor method. Participants of the study were 82 school counselors who worked in city center of Diyarbak？r. For data collection, the School Counselors' Perception About Parents Form was used. Content analysis was used to analysis data. At the end of the analysis, two main themes were found related to perceptions of the school counselors about the parents: positive and negative. There were 60 metaphors and four sub-themes as related to positive theme and 22 metaphors and two sub-themes under negative theme. The sub-themes under the positive theme generally emphasized the relationship between parents and the students. According to these sub-themes, parents were perceived as an important factor that reflects, raises, directs and supports students and completes the education system components. On the other hand, in the sub-themes under negative theme, the relationship of the school counselors with the parents was emphasized.
