FRAMING OF NEWS ABOUT ABORTION LAW IN WRITTEN PRESS: HURRIYET, EVRENSEL AND YENI SAFAK SAMPLE

Termination of unwanted pregnancy is as old as human history. Abortion, which was only a woman-specific knowledge in the beginning, combined with the possibilites of modern medicine with its development. When considered from the point of view the right of an individual to live, social norm and morality etc, abortion, which is not the only subject of medicine, has become a common point of religion, science, morality, and law. Abortion in Turkey became legal with 1983 Law on Population Registration. However, as it has been highly controversial topic, abortion law arrangement which has come to the fore from time to time, was proposed an item for the agenda again by Prime Minister during that time in 2012 and was stated that a new arrangement would be made. In this regard, in the study it has been dwelled on that how the explanations about abortion which during that time Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdo？an made in May 25, 2012 at the 5th International Conference of Parliamentarians were included in national press. In the study, Internet news about the subject in Hürriyet, Evrensel and Yeni ？afak published on May 26, 2012 were analyzed based on the framing model of Pan and Kociski (1993). In news stories which were preferred quotation in headlines , figures and metaphors are the main rhetorical framing tools. As a result of the thematic structure analysis, two subthemes might be revealed as “Abortion is murder” and “Abortion is an obstacle to increasing population”
