COMPARING PATRIOTISM EDUCATION IN SOCIAL STUDIES COURSES OF DIFFERENT COUNTRIES

Abstract:

In this study, the United States, Canada, examined by considering patriotism education in Singapore and Turkey and compared. It has been noted that while the countries are selected, the official language of the country is English and the Social Studies course is being taught in the country. In the US, Singapore, and Canada Social Studies programs, it seems that the core outcomes of patriotic value programs, such as core standards, have found themselves in the center. Within these headings, the value of patriotism is given in general terms by being associated with values such as multiculturalism, respect for differences, democracy. The main reason for this is that the countries we handle do not carry the quality of a nation state. The designated countries are the nations of cosmopolitan structure that come from different cultures and nations. Accordingly, there is a program built on multiculturalism, not on race and nation. USA, Singapore, Canada and Turkey's implementation of the value of patriotism and nation-state nature of Turkey's transport strategy is the basic difference is examined. This difference causes many points in the program to differ from other countries. When the findings from the research were examined, it was found that Patriotism value was not directly included in the US Singapore and Canada Social Studies curricula. The value of patriotism in our country is completely different in the program. The values of patriotism in the USA, Singapore and Canada’s Social Studies curriculum are among the values that should be given in our country without direct antagonism
