PHARMACOPHOBIA: FEAR OF THE MEDICATION AND OTHER FEARS IN HEALTHCARE

Objective: Every person fears but, if that fear gets more serious as a phobia and, affects judgements about health and treatment decisions, life could be harder and it could have negative outcomes. This study aims to review the fear of the using medication and other fears in the health area. Fear is what makes human protect him or herself, is a meaningful stimulant. But, fear could make these patients’ lives difficult to live with and sometimes it could make them reject the treatment all together. In this article, it is aimed to demonstrate the term of pharmacophobia as having the fear of the pharmacological medicine usage and, other fears including health issues. In order to form this review study, researches that are related with pharmacophobia and fear of treatments had been investigated. By this way it is tried to explained the reasons and the impacts of the fear towards medication and other fears regarding the healthcare. Result and Discussion: Possible advers drug reactions, media and internet’s negative posts, region and regional culture effects could cause the fear situations. In order to ensure rational drug use, enhance the drug compliance and improve the patient’s medical condition, it is important to fight against the fear. Giving patients professional advice and consultancy about medical treatment plans are found helpful aspects
