Abstract:

In this study, it was aimed to research the effects of various production parameters of core-spun yarns such as different sheath fibre type, core filament linear density and yarn fineness on yarn and some of the fabric properties. In addition to 100% cotton fibres, viscose (100%) and cotton/Tencel (50/50%) fibres were chosen as sheath fibres for the covering of the core filaments in the yarn centre while elastane (Lcyra) core filament having two different filament linear densities were used as a core material and core-spun yarns were obtained having three different yarn counts. In the study, known yarn quality parameters and also breaking strength and elongation, bursting strength and pilling behaviour of woven and knitted fabrics were determined. As in known yarn types such as conventional ring, OE-rotor etc., it is determined that analyzed production parameters have an influence on yarn and fabric properties. For example, sheath fibre characteristics reflect onto yarn unevenness and faults resulted from fibre length and number of short fibres and also onto breaking strength and elongation of yarn and fabrics resulted from fibre tensile properties. On the other hand, yarn count resulted from number of fibres in yarn structure and core filament fineness regarding with coating of the core filament and the number of fibres in the sheath layer of core-spun yarns affects yarn and fabric properties
