Self-Efficacy Perceptions of Preschool Teacher Candidates Related to Music Education

Abstract:

In this study, pre-school teachers' self-efficacy beliefs about music education were examined. The study group was formed of 253 students who are studying music education in 2015-2016 academic year at Giresun University Education Faculty Preschool Education Department. Within this scope, music education lessons are processed with the nominees and 20 item, 5 scale likert type “Musical Self-efficacy Belief Scale” developed by the researcher was applied to these candidates. Scope validity, criterion validity and construction validity studies were performed to test the validity of the “Musical Self-Efficacy Belief Scale”. Internal consistency and item analyzes were used to test the reliability of the scale. As a result of this study, it was found that developed scale is valid and reliable. The data obtained from applying this scale to teacher candidates were analyzed using statistical analysis methods such as frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean and t test. As a result of this study, it was determined that the musical self-efficacy levels of teacher candidates varied. According to this data, it was found that high level self-efficacy of teacher candidates in motivating students to music events. It was determined that self-efficacy levels are low in terms of effective use of time together with musical elements in music events. In addition, it was also found that there was no significant difference between variables such as gender, type of education, grade point, and scale scores
