THE NECESSITY OF ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS: EVALUATION OF WORKS ON THE SUBJECT IN TURKEY

Environmental ethics represents people's responsibility against the nature and the environment. It is the responsibility of adults to undertake this responsibility for future generations. Adult individuals, who will be the educated ones among this people and will guide the society, are university students. In order to increase academic knowledge and to be given place more to the topics of nature, environment and environmental ethics at the primary and secondary levels, depend on to come out considerable information changings at universities. Universities need to provide the necessities of their students about the education of environmental ethics. Today, courses and subjects related to the environment are taught in certain parts of the universities. However, environmental ethics are not mentioned in the courses related to environment at universities. At this point with current education programs, it may not be possible to educate people who have environmental awareness, responsibility and ethics. Because environmental ethics contains abstract concepts, its education should be given to those who have reached abstract thinking ability. In this direction, environmental ethics education should be given to university students who have reached abstract thinking skills. In this way, as the university students gain an attitude towards environmental ethics, it can be provided the environmental integrity of individual and to apprehend their position in this integrity
