Comparing News, Advertisement and Self-Regulation Approaches of Turkey’s Printed Local Newspapers and Digital Local Newspapers

This study has been conducted to determine the characteristics of the digital transition and present the change in the local press’ utilization of technology of Turkey's local press. The study is an extension of previous study, with a scope of 54 local newspapers of 29 provinces from April 2017. This study has been limited with the analysis of 123 samples from printed local newspapers and 116 websites of digital local newspapers in 61 provinces in Turkey. All national and local news in printed and digital press have been evaluated with qualitative and quantitative research methods. News have been categorized using content analysis and discourse analysis methods, findings have been interpreted for determine the properties of the printed local newspapers and local newspaper websites. Criteria such as amount of national news and local news, number of advertisements on the front page, whether the websites are update or not have been considered
