Evaluation of Decisions on Value, Moral and Character Education on National Education Councils

The purpose of this study is to examine and evaluate the decisions taken regarding the values, morals and character education in the National Education Councils. This study utilizes a case study pattern. As data collection method, written document analysis was preferred and the obtained data were analysed by descriptive analysis. According to findings of the research, values, morals and character education were first mentioned in the section of “Lahikalar-Yüksek ？？retimin Hedefleri” in the First National Education Council, which was held in July 1939. In the second National Education Council, a commission was established on the development of moral education in schools and a report with a wide content was prepared. The report was accepted by the councilmembers. Concepts of value, ethics and character education have not come to the agenda in the eleventh and fourteenth national education councils. Decisions regarding moral and character education have been dealt with in the last years under the values education. Values education can be said to have been given more weight in the National Education Council in recent years
