DETERMINING THE BIKE ROUTES IN THE CONTEXT OF SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION PLANNING: THE CASE OF KIRKLAREL？

The rapidly growing world population has brought population growth in urban areas. Increasing population in urban areas caused spatial and horizontal expansion of cities. Sustainability level in urban areas and prevention of urban problems before the occurance will only be possible by interactive planning. The increasing population in the urban scale, the increasing movement of people, goods and services and the increase in the ownership of the vehicle in parallel with it caused various problems in urban environment. The proportional distribution of the travels within the city to the transportation types is evaluated within the measurement criteria of the concept of livability in the world academic literature. The intensity of pedestrian movement and bicycle use, the rate of use of bicycles as a means of urban transportation is defined as the environmentally conscious, healthy and sustainable transportation that increases urban accessibility and mobility. In the first part of the study, urban livability and sustainability concepts are defined and the importance of transportation policies in order to produce a sustainable and livable city is mentioned. In the second stage, various analyzes were carried out for the city of Kirklareli. At the last stage of the study, the route of the bicycle path was determined with the help of the findings obtained from the analyzes.
