PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE OF PADDY PRODUCTION IN TOSYA

Tosya district; in the Black Sea region of our country, is located in the south western part of the Black Sea. Tosya is a town and 52 villages. The rural settlement disorganized tissue. Nearly half of the population live in the Tosya city centre. The most important economic activities in the county are agriculture, agro-based industries and trade. Basic vegetable products grown; rice, wheat, sugar beets, fruits (apples, plums, grapes, pears), and a lesser vegetable. Among these herbal products, rice is a distinctive feature both for our country and for Tosya. Tosya from the past to the present day, rice has been one of the most important production centers in the country. However, the agricultural policy applied in the last period has caused the rice plant, which is an important imported product item, to be negatively affected both in Tosya and other rice producing centers of our country. The subject has been handled in a quantitative, historical and fenomonologic way. The aim is to put forward the situation of rice production in Tosya in past, present and future, to show the problems experienced and to offer suggestions
