SWOT AND SOR ANALYZES OF VEGETABLE SEEDS SECTOR ？N ANTALYA PROVINCE OF TURKEY

This study highlights the place and importance of the vegetable seed sector in Turkish economy and foreign trade. It also aims to determine the problems/expectations of import-export companies and the general structure of the industry within the scope of Antalya province. There are 634 seed companies operating in Turkey. 57 of them are located in Antalya, which is a vegetable-greenhouse centre thanks to its favourable climate. This study is based on a face-to-face interview/survey conducted with the firms located in Antalya. The questions of the survey covered topics such as vegetable seed exports and imports and current policies. SWOT Analysis is a strategic planning method that focuses on the strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats of a phenomenon. SOR Analysis, on the other hand, is a strategy development process that employs the outputs of the SWOT Analysis in question. In this study, we present appropriate solutions for the vegetable seed sector based on the results of the surveys and interviews. We developed strategies for the two opportunities that received the highest total score (1. increases in incentives, grants, and loans, and 2. rising importance of crop production as a result of increasing food demand) and a threat (intense competition due to large number of seed companies in Turkey)
