The Effect of Intelligence Games on Secondary School Students’ Mathematical Reasoning Skills

The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of intelligence games on the 8th grade students’ mathematical reasoning skills. This study was conducted at K？r？kkale Atatürk Secondary School in 2015-2016 academic year. 20 volunteer students have been participated in the study from four different classes of the 8th grade. The students played intelligence games during 2 hours per weeks for ten weeks. Within the scope of the study, in order to collect data "Mathematical Reasoning Skill Level Determination Scale" was used as well as observer’s and students’ diaries. In data analysis related samples t-test was utilized. As a result of the study, it was determined that intelligence games positively affect the mathematical reasoning skills of middle school students. In the context of these results, mathematical reasoning skills can be improved by ensuring that students have to deal with the types of problems (intelligence games, etc.) that require them to be judged in conventional learning situations
