Quality Perception in Higher Education: Sample of Duzce University

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to determine university students’ perception on quality in higher education and whether their perceptions differ according to some demographic characteristics of students. In this study, quantitative data gathering methods were used and single and relational survey models were used as research design. A total of 274 students who were enrolled in the undergraduate programs of Duzce University in 2017-2018 academic year participated to this study. The participants were 1st and 2nd grade students from 7 different faculties. The questionnaire which was developed by Meraler (2011) was used as data collection tool. It consisted of 6 dimensions which are; students, teaching staff, teaching-learning process, facilities, management, scientific and social events. As a result of the study, it was found out that the students think that almost all of the items in the questionnaire are important about quality in higher education. It was observed that the participants mostly found the statements in management dimension as the most important ones, followed by facilities, teaching-learning process, scientific and social events, teaching staff, other students. According to this, students' opinions, demands and complaints should be taken into consideration and they should be allowed to participate in decision making processes in universities
