MAINTENANCE RELIABILITY WITHIN THE AVIATION HISTORY

Reliability of a system is equal to total amount of its design and manufacture reliability in production field and maintenance reliability in operation field. In aviation, maintenance reliability is the main goal which should be reached as the basic standard of a cost-effective aircraft maintenance management. Because, in any airways which can not obtain the maintenance reliability, there may be losses of not only properties, but also life, money, time and prestige. When we look at the aviation history, the importance of the maintenance reliability term, based on the Reliability Centered Maintenance concept, is understood after 1970. The aim of this work is studying the development of maintenance reliability term within the aviation history. As for the importance of the maintenance reliability term which has become a critical tool for managing the aviation maintenance organizations can also be understood in our country, it is evaluated that knowing primarily the historical development of the maintenance reliability is very useful.
