Adaptation Of Diabetes Self Management Questionnaire To Turkish Society: Validity and Reliability StudyKeywords: Diyabet,ge?erlik,güvenirlik,?z y?netim Abstract: Background: This study was carried out in a methodological manner for determining the validity and reliability of the Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire (DSMQ) by adopting it to the Turkish society. Methods: The study was carried out at the endocrinology polyclinic of the Private Anadolu Health Center Hospital and Private Anadolu Health Ata?ehir Medical Center during the dates of July 2016-September 2016 with a sample group comprised of type-2 diabetes patients complying with the sample selection criteria. The sample group was comprised of n=189 patients which is more than 10 times the number of items in the scale (16 items) in order to attain the validity and reliability of the Diabetes self-management Questionnaire (DSMQ). Diabetes self-management Questionnaire was comprised of 16 items and 4 subdimensions as Glucose Management, Diet Control, Physical Activity, and Healthcare Use. The 16th item was not included in any of the sub-dimensions and was evaluated using a 4-item Likert type scale. Results: DSMQ validity was assessed by language validity, construct validity (DFA) and coverage validity. Cronbach’s Alpha was calculated as 0.85 for the internal consistency analysis of DSMQ regarding its reliability which was quite high . The scale was applied on 40 patients with 2 patient intervals for Test-Re-Test Reliability, Inter Class Coefficient (ICC) was calculated and no difference was determined between the two applications. Conclusion: DSMQ that has been adopted into Turkish for use on diabetic patients is a valid and reliable tool. It is suggested to use it on different groups and cultures in order to increase the evidence value
