Mathematics Course Plan Application Example with Inquiry Based Teaching Approach

Abstract:

The aim of the study is to prepare a lesson plan example in accordance with the inquiry-based teaching method of the achievement of "He/she displays the fractions, whose numerator and denominator is a two-digit number at most, on numerical axis” which is included in the field of learning of fractions in the 4th grade. Five activity sheets have been developed for the acquisition. Respectively, the study papers of ‘’finding the modeled fraction’’, ‘’finding fractions on the numerical axis’’, ‘’creating a tool for calculating fractions’’, “Cuisenaire rods’’, and ‘’Test for evaluating the fractions’’. The study papers of the students demonstrate the outcomes such as writing the modeled fractions, showing fractions on numerical axis, creating a set of fractions, associating fractions with one another, understanding that calculations change according to the units of fraction, and showing the fractions whose numerator and denominator is a two-digit number at most. Examining the evaluation test carried out at the end of the process suggests that the students have been successful
