Abstract:

Today, letter training is one of the major and compulsory studies of the first literacy training process. The ability to recognize letters consists of three subcomponents. These are knowing the name, distinguishing the sound, and learning to write of the letter. First the name, the voice and the spelling of the letter, then the relations between them are taught to teach letters to students who are new to the school. They influence each other and improve the ability of students to recognize letters. When studies of letter training in the world are examined, it is seen that various methods are utilized. In some periods it is revealed that the name and order of the alphabet are taught and in some periods it is revealed that the vocal is taught. The order of the letters to be taught is based on these criteria. In our country, since 2005, the order of the letters to be taught in Turkish teaching programs is given. However, this ranking has changed in 2015 and 2017 programs. In this study, it was aimed to determine commonly used letters in the Turkish language for effective letter training in the first literacy training process. For this purpose, a total of 120,151 words and 788,318 letters taken from Turkish Language Institution Turkish Dictionary and Person Names Dictionary were examined. The most frequently used vowels are "a" and "e", while the constant is "k" in Turkish. In the first ten ranks, there are the letters "a,e,k,i,l,m,r,n,t,?" and more than half of the words are written with these letters. This situation reveals the superior to Turkish training, shows that the Turkish is superior to the English, close to the French. On the other hand, vowels are used at 41.22% and constants are used at 58.78% in Turkish. Turkish is superior to English and Germany, close to France aspects of the use of vowels and constants. The order of the commonly used letters in Turkish is the “aekilmrnt?suydobü?zg?phcv??fj". This ranking is in great agreement with the order of letter training in the 2005 Turkish Curriculum. However, it does not coincide with the letter order given in 2015 and 2017 Turkish Curriculum. For effective letter teaching, it is suggested that the order of letters in the 2017 Turkish Language Teaching Program should be arranged according to the structure of our language, to selection of the letters to be taught are based on scientific researches, to renewal of textbooks and materials, and to do new research about Turkish teaching abilities
