THE DIGITAL DIMENTION OF POPULAR HISTORY: A STUDY ON HISTORY CHANNELS IN YOUTUBE

The popular history telling is a storytelling form of history, with the growing interest in the recent years as production and consumption context. The storytelling of historical events, along with excite attention , makes it easier to learn and understand history. Popular history is mostly presented to the public via televised discussion programs, documentaries, and short videos, especially animations or narratives that have become popular in the social media in recent times. People find it more attractive and fun to learn from such publications, rather than from historical academic publications. In the study, those who have the most followers among popular date channels and date narrators on YouTube; The impact of digital media on reaching large masses of the discipline of history was investigated in three different audience dimensions of Stuart Hall's coding-codec approach, compared to the content they published, the common discourse they used, the feedback of followers, and the content published by academic historians. Findings, while pointing to a paradigm shift in the understanding of dominant history, provide important data in the context of the significance and influence of popular history narratives
