A Research on the Concept of Brand City and Brand City Studies in Turkey and Around the WorldKeywords: Marka,Marka ?ehir,Yerel Y?netimler Abstract: The concept of brand city is subject which steadily gaining more importance in recent years. Cities have been taking great efforts to become a brand, and increase their incomes. In this context, various activities are carried out for improving city images, attracting foreign investments, and increasing tourism revenues. Thus, local administrators have begun to attach more importance to the concept of brand. Cities which carry out branding city studies in Turkey, and the activities which they did , have investigated.Secondary data were collected over the Internet, the data were compiled, and a literature search was carried out through campaign websites and academic studies. Besides, through web search engines, the number of Turkish cities which claim to be a brand city was calculated, and certain websites opened for this purpose were examined. In terms of the possibility of comparing with the examples in the world, brand city studies from world were also included. According to the results of this study, many provinces of Turkey claim to be a brand city but an important part of them do not carry out adeaquate studies for this purpos
