The poem The Long Hate Song has been interpreted in many ways, and the discussion of its theme can be divided into several main arguments, such as the “love theory”, the “irony theory” and the “double theme theory”. This paper discusses the shortcomings of the “love theory” and the “irony theory”, and further explores the rationality of the “double theme theory” on the basis of mutual evidence in literature and history.
