Abstract:

this article discusses the brazilian black movement's role in giving a new meaning and politicizing the idea of race. race is understood as a social construction that marks latin-american society in a structural and structuring way, particularly the brazilian society. reflecting on the black movement's performance, it is assumed that this social movement, trough it's political actions, especially in favor of education, reeducates itself, the state, the society and the educational field about the ethnic-racial relationships in brazil towards social emancipation. the idea of race analyzed in this articles are based on the post-colonialist studies, which discusses race centrality in countries with a colonial past and how it operates in power relations that have been kept and still remains in modern occidental thoughts, including in education.
