Abstract:

the term modernization is constantly adopted to characterize and justify a set of changes that can occur in the society involving different social groups. this study was conducted from this standpoint, emphasized by lucie tanguy (2002), and centred on the identification of ongoing modernization projects for brazilian society expressed in the organization of industrial technical education between 1930 and 1960. three aspects are discussed by tanguy based on analysis of the modernization project of 20th century in france and its relation to education: "who promotes these changes? what is promoted? how is it promoted?" these issues serve as a basis for analysing the brazilian context, considering the escola técnica de curitiba (training school of curitiba), in brazil, as reference, in a social and historical approach, including the category training (tanguy) added to the category of gender relations.
