Abstract:

one of the deseases with more influence on the quality and quantity of the poplar's wood is the stem canker induced by septoria musiva peck. the aim of this work was to determine the incidence and severity of the desease produced by septoria over hybrid clones of poplar (populus spp.), in two microsites of a same regional site, in alberti, buenos aires, argentina. the utilized clones were obtained by intraespecific crossing of populus deltoides and interspecific of p. deltoides x p. nigra (= p. x canadensis). the susceptibility to the desease was determine for each clon/microsite estimating the incidence, the number of canker on guides and branches, and the severity of the damage. the inter and intraespecific hybrids of p. deltoides presented a different clonal result in the susceptibility to stem canker in both geomorphic situations: the hybrids coming from intraespecific crossing were resistant and the ones coming from interespecific crossing were susceptible to the desease. the significant differences between clones, determined for the total number of damages for each position in both geomorphic situations, did not determined different id. the number of identified canker over each position established a tool for the estimation of the clonal susceptibility to stem canker taking in consideration that the mayor damages occur when the injuries take place over the guides.
