Análisis bibliométrico de la revista Archivos Latinoamericanos de NutriciónKeywords: bibliometric, periodicals, retrospective studies, descriptive and exploratory analysis, arch latinoamer nutr. Abstract: abstracts: the bibliometric indicators of the journal " archivos latinoamericanos de nutrición" (alan alan) were analyzed by taking the articles published between september, 1990 and june, 2003 as study samples. the descriptive- retrospective methodology was applied, where quantitative and qualitative indicators (categories and statistical accessibility) were explored, as modified by gonzález de dios, between the periods 1996-1997 and 2001- 2002. according to our research, 55.9% of researchers published only one article in the studied journal. the mean number of authors per article was 3±1.8, showing that the production of articles per year in the alan journal has been decreasing progressively. most of the published articles were in the spanish language (66.6%), and among the countries which contributed with the most publications were venezuela with 21.1% and brazil with 19.9%. among the institutions, the universidad de chile was the most productive with 24.9%, followed by the universidad central de venezuela with 17.6%. certain topic areas, such as child malnutrition, have disappeared. women show a high level of productivity with 54.3%, compared to that of men with 35.1%. a high percentage of papers (35.2%) did not use complex statistical procedures. in conclusion, the journal remains within the bibliometric indicators of other journals, both latin american and of other hemispheres, and has provided us with an approach to the reality of our scientific activity within the nutrition context. an venez nutr 2007;20 (1): 22-29
