Abstract:

based on theories about social identity, we study the moderating role of perceived group status across ethnicity and either psycho-social adjustment or discrimination. we applied a survey to a quasi-random sample of the main two immigrant groups of immigrants in the basque country: latinos and africans. in line with our hypotheses, differences between latin-american and african immigrants were moderated by perceptions about the relationship between majorities and minorities, specifically by the legitimacy and stability of differences in status, fraternal resentment and group efficacy. africans showed a more vulnerable social profile than latinos.
