the information society promotes the introduction of a new standard for the transmission of knowledge, based on the watching of multimedia contents. an environment like internet allows the better spread of cultural heritage, using all the facilities offered by the so called semantic web, making possible to combine documentary recovery techniques with information expert systems. this article discusses the methodological bases being employed in relation to a specific case as archivo naval del mediterráneo de cartagena (spain) and emphasizes how these methodological guidelines based on the semantic web can be applied to other environments in latin america by means of the use of a common language like castilian.
