Abstract: this work considers film censorship in chile during the first half of the twentieth cen-tury the main argument, formulated upon the revision of primary sources in chile and the united states, is that far from being a local phenomenon, film censorship in chile was debated and applied based on the participation and dialogues among numerous and diverse people from around the world. this was possible because of the global hegemonic predominance of hollywood movies, which facilitated the articulation of a transnational discussion over film censorship in chile.
