Abstract:

linguistic identity is co-constructed in communicative interactions and it consists of behavioural, affective and cognitive factors which take form through linguistic attitudes. it is suggested that these attitudes enable individuals to show their personal identity and to form value judgments concerning their own way of speaking and the speech of others. the purpose of this research is to analyze the linguistic identity of 50 children with speech disorders.attitudinal factors were measured with the identling test, especially designed to tap these factors. the results showed that the individuals with speech disorders display a set of knowledge, convictions, beliefs and prejudices that are (pre)formed in their own daily experiences. we suggest that the identity of individuals with speech disorders is constructed into a system of values and beliefs rooted in the social group to which the individuals belong.
