within the framework of critical discourse analysis (cda), the speech of an elderly middle-class man inmerida (venezuela) is examined in this study. the aim is to reveal his idiosyncratic construction of the concept work. based on the analysis of both linguistic and extra-linguistic elements, the discourse topics have been identified, and the lexical items associated with the notion of work have been examined. additionally, the social and historical context has been used to characterize the speaker as a member of his speech community. this study has enabled the researcher to reconstruct the speaker？s notion of work using a cda approach
