La Metáfora, Un Encuentro Entre Lenguaje, Pensamiento Y Experiencia

in this article the relationship between language and cognition is illustrated within the framework of metaphor theory in the general context of cognitive linguistics. the metaphors of emotions are analyzed in narratives of important events produced by bogota adults between 24 and 30 years of age. the use of these metaphors shows how language, thought and experience are interrelated, as recently suggested in cognitive science. in the first place, the metaphorization of emotions is analyzed in the dominions of sensorial and motor experiences. next, i discuss the convenience of classifying these subjective experiences as rational or irrational. the analysis, discussion and interpretation of the data is based on the theoretical and methodological framework offered by lakoff, johnson and turner′s work on metaphor theory. key words: metaphors, emotions, rationality
