ARQUEOLOGíA DE PASOS CORDILLERANOS: UN CASO DE ESTUDIO EN PATAGONIA NORTE DURANTE EL HOLOCENO TARDíODOI: 10.4067/S0718-68942008000200003 Keywords: andean passes, andean-patagonian forest, interaction, rock art, portable art, obsidian. Abstract: the objective of this paper is to evalúate the permeability that the patagonian andes had between 41°30' and 43° 40' south latitudefor the interaction ofthe hunter-gatherers thatpopulated the área during thelate holocene. for this study, we analyzed the availability of mountain passes, evidence oftheir use, the distribution of rock art, decorated objects ana obsidian. the results have enabled us to propose a circulation model that has a predominantlynorth-south orientation, with coastal adaptations on the western side of the andes, and inland adaptations on the eastern side. east-west trans-andean circulation seems to have been limited to visual/symbolic codes. in the future, this model should be developed further through trying to answer other types of questions, such as why certain materials never crossed the andes.
