RESIDUOS DE ALMIDONES Y EL USO DE PLANTAS DURANTE EL HOLOCENO MEDIO EN EL CAUCA MEDIO (COLOMBIA)Keywords: colombia, middle cauca, middle holocene, starch grains, phaseolus. Abstract: this paper presents starch grain data that suggest pant usage by human foragers that inhabited the san eugenio river basin (middle cauca) in the first half of the middle holocene. a large number of starch grains (325) were recovered from grinding tools (manos and bases) from the preceramic levels at la pochola archaeological site. the data suggest the exploitation of carbohydrate-rich plants, amongst which a variety of phaseolus (wild or domesticated) is found, placing the middle cauca region in to an important place to study the domestication and expansion of this gender. we then propose a forest management model based on the selective use of plants and the increase local plant diversity, that preceded the arrival and use of foreign domesticates.
