Abstract: in this article we seek to investigate the articulations that take place in argentina?s current socio-political situation between the different forms in which the social question is problematized, the preventive politics of crime control and the reorientations in social policy field. we assume that during the last decade, in argentina, a tendency to construct the insecurity problem as the core of the constant tension of capitalistic societies has been progressively consolidated. this particular problematization of the social question, which shows the insecurity problem as the hegemonic expression of the way in which potential social fractures are interpreted, diagnosed, and conducted offers the conditions of emergence of new interventions that construct specific relations between the notions of ?crime? and ?living conditions?. in social policy field, we have recognized an important mutation in the foundation of social interventions that have abandoned a paradigm that hold the integral protection of the living conditions of a working mass and have adopted an orientation that privileges the foundation of specific and temporary interventions on groups classified by risk and danger levels. in addition, the reorientation of criminal policy to the social issue appears as one of the privileged places to observe these processes of redefinition of the social question. we emphasize the problematic relation between preventive strategies of criminal control and social policies.
