this article studies the process of formation of the state church in argentina, in parallel with the process of nation-state building during the state organization period. the creation of dioceses and archdioceses responded to a political project directly related with debates about the nation-state building and the problem of federalism. thus, the role played by the argentine nation-state in the construction of the argentine church was more important and determinant than the influence and the power of the saint siege, even in an era of romanization
