Abstract: interest in net primary production (npp) has recently increased owing to the growing awareness of climate change and to the need to understand its impacts on the environment. the aim of this study is to evaluate how dendrochronology may be used on the study of climate impacts on carbon sequestration by pinus pinaster ait. ecosystems in northeastern portugal. the central focus of this research has been on the role of meteorological parameters on npp, previously determined through the use of dendrochronological pinus pinaster ait. series. a principal component analysis (pca) is then performed using surface temperature and total precipitation monthly anomaly fields over the euro-atlantic sector in order to access the impact of temperature and precipitation in inter-annual variability of npp and carbon sequestration. this work suggests that surface temperature and total precipitation on previous summer are the most important parameters for carbon sequestration by pinus pinaster ait. on ecosystems in northeastern portugal.
