Modified KdV equations for solitary Rossby waves with nonlinear topography in barotropic fluids

Abstract:
The modify Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equations, governing the evolution of the amplitude of solitary Rossby waves, are derived from the quasi-geostrophic vorticity equation by using the weakly nonlinear method and perturbation method. The result indicaes that the nonlinear topography effect with the change of latitude can induce solitary Rossby waves.
