Cost Effective Architecture for Symmetric Full-duplex Colorless WDM-PONs Using DPSK Downstream and OOK Re-modulated Upstream Data SignalsKeywords: Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) , Passive Optical Access Network (PON) , Differential Phase Shift Keying (DPSK) , ON-OFF Keying (OOK) Abstract: Wavelength-division-multiplexing passive optical network (WDM-PON) has been considered as a promising next generation access network solution. We propose and demonstrate a cost-effective full duplex WDM-PON architecture using a single Mach-Zehnder Modulator for downstream transmitter. A Return-to-Zero Differential Phase Shift Keying (RZ-DPSK) data signal is used for downstream while the downstream signal is re-modulated for upstream signal using an ON-OFF Keying (OOK) data signal at symmetric data rate of 10-Gbps. Simulation results shows error free transmission over 25 Km single mode fiber(SMF) with lower BER and improved receiver sensitivity.
