Competences for teaching in modern society

Current trends in education in Slovakia focus at the transformation of the educational system from the point of view of the content as well as the methods. The main objective might be formed as follows: give the students the opportunity to learn how to learn and help them to succeed in the process. Several key competences were formulated to enable the creation of the system that would reflect the needs of modern society. The paper deals with the aspects of modernisation of the educational process mainly from the point of view of ICT and implementation of e-learning. Furthermore, we concentrate on the competences of the teachers and students that they need to gain and practice for successful teaching.
