Abstract:

This study focused on the emotion of adolescent’s anger, and efforts to manage the emotion of anger. This research used expressive therapy by writing about emotional experience that aims to help adolescents are able to express their anger and as a medium of catharsis. The research design was a Single Group Design with “one group pre-test and post-test experimental” method. Participants who attend this research are eight male, with age between 16 to 21 years and had STAXI’s high scores. Participants were asked to write down their emotional experiences in a book. The result of the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test showed a significant decreasing in participant’s anger emotional after writing session, that is while the pre- test to post-test with a value of z = -1.893 with p = 0.029 (p <0.05). While pre-test to follow-up with the value z = - 2.524 with p = 0.006 (p <0.01), and while the post-test to follow up with the value z = - 1.682 with p = 0.046 (p <0.05). The results show that writing an emotional experience in expressive therapies able to reduce the emotion of anger in adolescent. Key word : writing emotional experience therapy, anger, and emotion.
