Abstract:

The increase in incidence of immunological disorders and immune related diseases demands a need to develop alternative immunotherapeutic agents. As dietary agents are most consumer acceptable and the research showed that probiotics acts as immunopotentiaters. But probiotics can not be used in immunocompromised host. Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) can ameliorate the immune response as well as act as anticancerous. Hence the present study was aimed to find out the immunorestorative potential of CLA in vivo in immunosuppressed experimental model Swiss albino mice. The mice were made immunosuppressed with Hydrocortisone. The nitrobluetetrazolium (NBT), inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase (iNOS), phagocytosis, DTH, anti-SRBC antibody and anti-BSA antibody tests were carried to study the cell mediated as well as humoral immune response. Results reveal that CLA not only enhanced the immune response in normal animals but also could restore the immune response of hydrocortisone treated mice.
