Abstract: The purpose of this article is to examine how the global and regional development articulate and materialize as a concrete formation as the one in the state of Maranh o. In order to grasp the role of the bourgeois state, both nationally and regionally, in a context marked by transnational character determinations, we examine its relations with major economic enterprises. In the process, the participation of regional oligarchies has been decisive, which are interested in strengthening their political interests, putting themselves at the service of the integration of the regional economy to the capitalist system of international agreements as mediators between the Brazilian government and and large transnational corporations (Japanese and American). Initiatives such as these, involving government planning and private capital, have caused profound social and environmental impacts, changing biomes and livelihoods of local populations. After 30 years of the Grande Carajás Project, the state of Maranh o remains one of the poorest states of Brazil, showing extremely low social indicators, but very high rates of concentration of land, wealth and political power.
