Configura es em confronto: cultura política e a imprensa de Guarapuava/PR nas elei es de 1958

This article analyzes the construction of political cultures throughthe political clashes addressed in the newspapers Folha do Oeste, owned by Ant nio Lustosa de Oliveira (PSD party), and Tribuna Paranaense owned by Jo o Ferreira Neves (PSP party), during the 1958 elections, in the city of Guarapuava/PR. Through the view of a renewed political history, the newspapers have been seen as a space for political dispute, as well as for the construction of social and cultural representations. It was sought to understand the language and the arguments used by the candidates/owners of the newspapers in order to convince voters in a period in which the concept of neutral and impartial press was only being consolidated, at the same timebeing conditioned to the marketing logics and attempting to be sold as a “news source”.
