CLAPPING WITH ONE HAND: THE CASE OF URBAN ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION PRACTICES IN NIGERIA

This paper expounded the relevance of community participation in the achievement of sustainable urban environmental sanitation in Nigeria. Conceptually, it discussed community participation and urban environmental sanitation and expressed the interface between the two. The paper also discussed the evolution of environmental sanitation practices in Nigeria before, during and after the colonial era. It went further to assess the situation of community participation in urban environmental sanitation in Nigeria. Lastly, the conclusion comes that willing participation of community people should be made a priority if Nigerian cities will experience sustainable environmental sanitation.
