Functionalist theory had been put forward based on Wittgenstein's second term philosophy. Many theists have seen usage-based theory of Wittgenstein promising to save the religion. But, attempts to interpret the language of religion on the basis of function were criticized for being reductionist. At the same time, this attitude has been evaluated by the theist philosophers as an approach which ignores the divine-metaphysical aspect.
