Numerical Analysis of the Posterior Fixation System Numerical Analysis of the Posterior Fixation SystemKeywords: posterior fixation , spine , stiffness , FE analysis Abstract: One of the consequences of degenerative changes in the spine is a mutual displacement of two neighboring vertebrae (spondylolisthesis) which causes irritation of the nerve roots or the spinal chord. In order to eliminate the clinical difficulties, it is usually necessary to revise surgically the placement of the neighboring vertebrae and their strong fixation using posterior fixators. These fixators must be able to transfer the high-force loading, however, they must be strong and tough enough so that there is no further mutual displacement of the vertebrae. Therefore each manufacturer of these medical devices must carry out a detailed analysis of a new type of fixator during its development. The execution of computational analysis of the innovated type of posterior fixator made by ProSpon, s.r.o. using the Finite Element Method is the subject of this study.
