EDUCATION OF NURSES AND MEDICAL TECHNICIANS IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE

Sa？etak Emergency medicine in the Republic of Croatia operates through county emergency medical services and in acute care hospitals within the framework of Emergency Department (ED). The Emergency Medicine Network determines the number of T1 teams (physician, nurse and driver) and T2 teams (two nurses) according to the total population and size of the area covered by the county. Emergency Department receives patients who come alone or are transferred by an outpatient emergency medical service. The Croatian Institute of Emergency Medicine (CIEM) is the head institution for emergency medicine in the Republic of Croatia. The Institute is responsible for proposing the conditions, organization and manner of performing emergency medicine, and participates in performing professional and scienti？ c activities. In front of the nurses working in the emergency medical service there are many challenges that they face every day in all workplaces, including ？ eldwork, medical dispatch unit (MDU), triage, Emergency Department, and education. Their knowledge and skills are constantly being upgraded and re？ ned through many lectures, educational programs and courses. There are educational programs for nurses in outpatient emergency medical services, for nurses working at MDU, triage at ED, specialized courses aligned with the European guidelines for resuscitation and airway, Emergency Medicine School, and many others
