Spinal cord injury (SCI)-related osteoporosis is common complication in people with tetraplegia or paraplegia. Studies have shown that sublesional regions are severely demineralized. Loss of bone and sequential fractures are major problems in people with SCI that lead to further immobilization and decreasing quality of life. Despite extensive research mechanisms of this bone impairment are inadequately understood.
