DETERMINATION OF DYNAMIC PARAMETERS OF CLAY WITH RESONANT COLUMN TEST

During cyclic loading,soils indicate different behaviors than static loads. In the past it was thought that the damaging effect of earthquakes was only due to the inadequate selection building elements and building materials.After 1960's it is found that soils are very effective for the earthquake’s damage and magnitude. In this study, the resonant column test is chosen to investigate the dynamic effect at low stress level, which is effective for structures such as foundation and soil works. Thus, for the analysis of dynamic parameters under low stresses, resonant column test was carried out in clay soil, at different cell pressures. As a result of the tests, with increasing cell pressure, the maximum shear modulus of the clay soil was increased while the damping ratio decreased
