Comparison of the Zoology Works of Aristotle and Kemalüddin Demir?Keywords: Zooloji Tarihi,Aristoteles,Demir?,Hayatü’l-Hayevan,?slam Zoolojisi Abstract: This article will compare the Historia Animalium, De Partibus Animalium, De Generatione Animalium and De Anima which are among the zoolgy works of Aristotle, who is also been stated to be the founder of biology, and Kemalüddin Demiri’s work titled Hayat al-Hayawan. This comparison will be made on the works, their contents, mehtods and views. With this purpose, first Aristotle’s zoology has been analyzed in terms of its basic theories, methods and works. Afterwards, beneath the title zoology in the Islamic civilization, the basic theories accepted and the methods of the scholars has been evaluated. After that, in order to determine the position of Demiri, important Islamic zoologists have been dealt with. Finally, Demiri and his work have been analyzed. After Aristotle’s and Demiri’s zoological works and their views on animals have been reviewed, the comparison has been made. At the end of this study, it has been understood that Demiri’s Hayat al-Hayawan and the Islamic zoology in general, in regards to maturity and creativity has been weaker than Aristotle’s zoology. While Aristotle’s understandings and works can be seen as a zoological approach for an interpretation and explanation on the events of life within a theoretical frame, it has been understood that the works of Islamic scholars are those with a descriptive purpose and bearing the character of an encyclopedia
